I think this was one of the most subtlety poignant moments of the show. It’s as if Gold is tired of being feared and just looked at as the intimidating guy who collects the rent. I think he enjoys being intimidating at some level, yes, but I think he is also lonely. He is more than just the rent collector, he is a man with feelings too.
Besides his appearance in Skin Deep and in Desperate Souls, I think this bit right here is one of the most attractive shots of Mr. Gold. That hair, that tie, that suit, that look. Unf.
